Advocates Against Family Violence helps victims
There are many obstacles that victims have to overcome before they can be truly free of domestic violence. At AAFV our support specialists, advocates and interns provide assistance to victims as they work towards overcoming these obstacles.
Support Specialists link clients with community resources such as:
- Health care services (e.g. Medicaid)
- Education
- Employment
- Food banks
- Housing
- Transportation
- Finances
- Children's services
- Legal Aid Referrals
- Court Advocacy
AAFV advocates also teach life skills classes, help clients learn to budget, write resumes, and be assertive in asking for help. For clients who are involved with Child Protective Services or have probation officers, the Support Specialist assists with plan coordination to reduce barriers to clients' successes.
Advocates also facilitate Safety Planning and Civil Protection Orientation.
